Health Insurance
Individual, family, and group health insurance plans for North Carolina residents — from ACA marketplace plans to Medicare and supplemental coverage.
Health Insurance Help for Winston-Salem & NC Residents
Navigating health insurance is one of the most complicated financial decisions you'll make. Plan types, networks, deductibles, co-insurance, out-of-pocket maximums, subsidy eligibility — the terminology alone is enough to overwhelm anyone. That's where ARL Insurance Agency comes in.
Licensed agent Anthanette Peterson (NC DOI License #19189526) holds Life & Health licenses in multiple states and is qualified to help individuals and families understand and enroll in individual health plans, Medicare products, and supplemental coverage. We work with multiple carriers, which means we compare options on your behalf — not push a single company's products.
Whether you're self-employed, between jobs, approaching Medicare eligibility, or shopping for your employees, ARL Insurance Agency provides honest guidance with no pressure and no hidden fees.

All the Health Coverage We Offer
ARL Insurance Agency offers the full spectrum of health-related coverage for individuals, families, and businesses across North Carolina.
Individual & Family Plans
Individual and family health plans cover you — and your dependents — for doctor visits, hospital stays, emergency care, preventive services, and prescription drugs. ARL Insurance Agency works with multiple carriers to find plans that match your healthcare usage and budget. We compare deductibles, out-of-pocket maximums, co-pays, and network options side-by-side so you can make an informed decision.
Group Health Insurance
Offering group health insurance to your employees is one of the most effective ways to attract and retain talent in the competitive Winston-Salem job market. Group plans typically have lower per-person premiums than individual plans because risk is spread across the group. ARL Insurance Agency helps NC employers of all sizes build competitive benefits packages, from 2-person shops to companies with 50+ employees.
ACA Marketplace Plans
The Affordable Care Act (ACA) marketplace offers subsidized health insurance to individuals and families who meet income requirements. If your household income falls between 100% and 400% of the federal poverty level, you may qualify for a premium tax credit that significantly reduces your monthly cost. North Carolina uses the federal Healthcare.gov marketplace. Anthanette Peterson can help you determine your subsidy eligibility and select the right metal tier — Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Platinum — for your situation.
Short-Term Health Insurance
Short-term health plans provide temporary coverage when you are between jobs, waiting for employer coverage to begin, or missed the ACA open enrollment window. These plans can be activated quickly — sometimes within 24 hours — and typically offer lower premiums than ACA plans. However, they are not ACA-compliant and may not cover pre-existing conditions or all essential health benefits. ARL Insurance Agency helps you understand the trade-offs so you choose the right solution for your situation.
Medicare Supplement & Advantage
If you are 65 or older — or qualify due to disability — Medicare is your primary coverage. However, Original Medicare alone leaves significant gaps: hospital deductibles, co-insurance, and no out-of-pocket maximum. Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plans fill those gaps with predictable costs. Medicare Advantage plans bundle Parts A, B, and often Part D into a single plan with additional benefits like dental and vision. ARL Insurance Agency's Medicare specialists help Winston-Salem-area seniors compare all available options during their enrollment periods.
Dental & Vision Add-Ons
Standard health insurance plans typically do not cover routine dental or vision care. Standalone dental plans cover preventive cleanings, X-rays, fillings, and major procedures. Vision plans cover annual eye exams, prescription lenses, and frames or contact lenses. Both are available as add-ons to your existing health coverage or as standalone policies. These are especially valuable for families with children and for adults over 40 who experience more frequent vision changes.

Even with a solid health plan, out-of-pocket costs can add up fast. Supplemental plans — accident insurance, critical illness, hospital indemnity, dental, and vision — pay cash benefits directly to you, filling the gaps your primary health insurance leaves behind. These plans are available to North Carolina residents regardless of whether you have major medical coverage.
